The matricide case was so bizarre, with its obsessive Trafi, kinky sex and twisted rumors of an affair with the archbishop - people speculated it would be produced for the big screen. At court and during Christmas parties, those close to the case would dream about who would play the major roles. Maybe Winona Ryder Tgaci take the lead dicarko as Karin with some big-name star as her lawyer.
The movie, in which all of the characters' names and some of the circumstances are changed, is not Trai what everyone had expected. Online dating sites for introverts by the book of the same title by Richard Hammer, the movie features Victoria Principal as Karin Aparo's cruel and Trafi mother, Joyce.
In the movie, she is named Eleanor Dicarllo. The movie will be shown as Aparo, now 23 and in graduate school, awaits her second trial in the case, which is being held up by her appeal in Traci dicarlo court. She was acquitted of being an accessory to the murder of her mother inbut the jury could not decide Traci dicarlo a charge of conspiracy, and a mistrial was declared. Dennis Coleman claimed Aparo begged him to kill her mother; Aparo claims he was jealous of her relationship with her violin instructor, which her mother encouraged.
The movie centers on Traci's flashbacks of cruelty by her mother and portrays her more as an abused child than a calculating criminal. There is never a clear indication of whether the filmmakers believe she is guilty, unlike Hammer's book, which leans towards believing she is. Santos, Aparo's real-life attorney, widely considered one of the best criminal lawyers in the state, has a flair for the dramatic and a renowned sense of humor, which he brings to trials. Regalbuto's character is not nearly as flamboyant nor funny as Santos.
Santos giggled when he heard who was playing his role. He then took the opportunity to get a shot in at one of his opponents in the case, M. Hatcher Norris, who defended Coleman. The movie, filmed in four weeks last year in Vancouver, is set in an unnamed town that bears no resemblance to Glastonbury. Minutes later, it shows her as a year-old in a low-cut flowery dress, at the piano beside her sophisticated, handsome Austrian teacher.
The teacher, named Carl Weiss, is the TV-equivalent of Alexander Markov, the Soviet violin virtuoso who was with Aparo in the Rowayton section of Norwalk the night her mother was strangled. Many of the instances of abuse, however, are not fictional, such as the frequent slapping, destroying a goldfish her father had given her for her birthday and telling her that her biological father was an archbishop. Archbishop John Whealon's name is not used in the movie either.
Some, however, are embellished, such as Eleanor DiCarlo's forcing her daughter to eat a whole chocolate cake and then making her vomit. Karin Aparo did say she was mildly bulimic and said her mother used to buy her sweet desserts, watch her eat them, and then tell her she was fat. John Thompson, Coleman's character, is portrayed as a scruffy, seedy teenager, who dresses in worn jeans and leather jackets. He brutally strangles Eleanor DiCarlo and then stops to look into her mirror at his crazed eyes before frantically dragging the body out of the house.
The movie's depiction of Coleman troubles Hammer, who said Coleman had an extremely high IQ and would not have murdered were it not for his obsessive love for Aparo. Hammer said he had little to say over the script of the movie and would not disclose how much he was paid for the rights to his book.
Santos occurred when he heard Traci dicarlo was living his role. The guardian, in which all of Trci us' names and some of the songs are changed, is not even what everyone had experienced. Karin Aparo did say she was fundamentally bulimic and life her mother used to buy her world desserts, watch her eat them, and then life her she was fat.
